Overview

Are you short of breath?

COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) is a very common problem in Franklin County and Central Ohio. Chronic lung disease is an on-going problem that keeps you from breathing normally. Many conditions are considered chronic lung disease. These include emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma, restrictive lung disease and cystic fibrosis. COPD is caused by many factors including smoking, environmental and occupational exposure to lung irritants.

If you have chronic lung disease you probably notice that some activities may cause you to become short of breath. You may find it difficult to climb a flight of stairs, manage household chores or keep up with your children or grandchildren. You may also have a chronic cough and an increased amount of sputum. Over time, these problems may cause you to avoid certain activities you really enjoy.

The Breathing Association offers free in-home education on how to understand and manage your breathing problems, use your medications correctly and breathing exercises which can help you manage shortness of breath and continue to be active. Through our COPD Outreach program we help you “breathe easier” and stay healthier.

If you would like to find out more about this program or have questions about your breathing problems, contact Joyce Johnson at 437-1521.
